Overview

Roland Garros is one of tennis's four Grand Slam tournaments, attracting the world's best players and millions of viewers every year.

Working with Timeline Television, I was part of the remote production team delivering live coverage of the outside courts as Remote Director, using the Simplylive production platform from Timeline's Production Centre in Ealing, London.

The production enabled audiences around the world to follow matches beyond the main show courts, providing comprehensive coverage throughout the tournament.

My Role

As Remote Director, I directed live coverage of the outside courts from Timeline Television's remote production facilities in Ealing.

Using the Simplylive production platform, I was responsible for the editorial direction of the live programme while also operating my own replay sequences, selecting and cueing key moments to enhance the live broadcast.

Working across both directing and replay operation required constant awareness of the live action, ensuring important points and turning moments could be replayed quickly without disrupting programme flow.

The role demanded clear communication and close collaboration with vision mixers, graphics operators, engineering teams and on-site camera crews in Paris, maintaining seamless coverage throughout the tournament.

Remote Production

The production was delivered using Timeline Television's remote production workflow, with the production gallery based in Ealing, West London, while cameras and technical teams operated on site at Roland Garros in Paris.

Using the Simplylive platform, the team delivered high-quality live coverage from the UK, demonstrating how modern remote production can successfully support one of the world's most prestigious sporting events.

The Result

The production delivered continuous live coverage of the outside courts throughout the tournament, allowing audiences to follow emerging talent, doubles matches and key moments beyond the main televised courts.

Working remotely as both Director and Replay Operator, I helped deliver consistent, high-quality coverage across one of the busiest events in the international tennis calendar.
